A new season starts with promise, but no points.
A new-look third team started the season with a home defeat that showed, in parts, both the potential held within the team and the inexperience and lack of cohesion that will improve as the season progresses.
The lack of pace on a shot on goal bamboozled the Redditch defence leading to an early opener for Edgbaston, which was fortuitously doubled before half-time.
A cruelly spinning ball off the Redditch keeper, leaving the defender on the line with no chance, from a short corner dribbled over the line for the third, and a misjudgement from a well-placed shot led to a fourth. Edgbaston finally scored a genuinely well-crafted goal to make in 5-0 with five minutes remaining.
Despite the scoreline, the young Redditch team took plenty of positives from a game where they matched their opponents in most departments. Young EC, playing his first adult league game in a variety of positions over the course of the match, was voted player of the match.
