Haslam the match-winner as Kingfishers keep up title charge
REDDITCH head to Market Drayton on Saturday sitting second in the West Midlands Premier Division – behind leaders Barford Tigers 2nds on goal difference.
Last weekend’s 2-1 home win over Edgbaston 2nds secured a seventh league win from eight matches for the Kingfishers.
However, the home side were made to work hard for their victory as the Birmingham outfit threatened to take something from the fixture.
Redditch got the job done though and now prepare for a tough game against fourth-placed Market Drayton before fixtures against Barford and Cannock either side of Christmas.
In the early exchanges Redditch were positive going forward and created several good chances to score but they were punished for their profligacy when Edgbaston took the lead before half-time.
The hosts did not enjoy as much quality possession in the second half but eventually equalised when captain Adrian Young deflected home an Andy Billingham penalty corner strike.
Inside the last ten minutes, Redditch broke down the left-hand side and Luke Baker found Jacob Beard who held up the ball well in the corner before firing the ball across goal and Joel Haslam showed determination to slide belly first across the astroturf to guide the ball into the back of the net.
Redditch 2nds won 6-0 against Bournville through goals from Lee Beedon (2), John Manison (2), Chris Thomas and Dan Waite to move into mid-table.
Redditch 3rds won 2-1 against Droitwich 2nds, the ladies lost 6-2 against Bromsgrove 2nds and the ladies 2nds were 2-0 victors against Droitwich 2nds.
