Promotion-chasing Kingfishers make it a winning hat-trick

REDDITCH Men’s 1st XI continued their good form in West Midlands Premier Division, chalking up a third win in succession by beating Worcester 2nd XI 6-2.

The conditions were not ideal as Storm Dennis brought heavy winds and rain to the ground but Redditch soon took a grip of the game, allowing Worcester no time on the ball.

Jacob Beard and Harry Williams linked up well to give the Kingfishers a 2-0 lead.

Luke Baker then scored his first goal of the season from a penalty corner deflection to give the hosts a 3-0 lead at half time.

However, in the second half Worcester found a new gear and poor Redditch defending allowed the visitors to reply with a goal from open play followed by a second from a penalty stroke.

Redditch were strong in the challenge and this was not always to the umpire’s liking as they played some of the second half with 10 men. But when the sin bins had been completedand Redditch were back to 11 men they pushed forward and went 4-2 up.

Captain Adrian Young was the first to react to a save from the Worcester keeper from Beard’s penalty corner effort.

Beard then scored from a penalty corner himself for 5-2 before completing his hat-trick with a very well-taken solo effort on the reverse stick.

Redditch remain second in the league going into Saturday’s game against Lichfield 3rds.
