Kingfishers hit back to sink Solihull Blossomfield

REDDITCH maintained their fine start to the West Midlands Premier Division season with a 4-1 home win over Solihull Blossomfield on Saturday.

The Kingfishers went 1-0 down early in the first half from a Bloss penalty corner but soon found their rhythm and goals from Andy Billingham and Dan Jakeman and a brace for Jacob Beard gave the hosts all three points.

Fourth-placed Redditch – with nine points from four games – visit Worcester 2nds at Nunnery Wood on Saturday (noon).

The second team were beaten 5-1 at Blossomfield and had Matt Turner’s goal as their only consolation and the 3rds were beaten 4-0 by Stourport 4ths.

Redditch 4ths’ game at Worcester was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and there was also frustration for Redditch Ladies, for whom Eva Dodd netted in a 3-1 defeat against Stourport 4ths.

There was an emphatic 9-0 success for Redditch Ladies 2nds who won 9-0 against Bromsgrove 6ths thanks to a hat-trick from Fran Baker and goals from Phoebe Kershaw (2), Louise Jennings (2), Charley Padfield and Frankie Griffiths.

Undeterred by the rain, Redditch produced an outstanding team performance which maintained their impressive unbeaten start to the season.

Baker was cool and collected up front, earning the player of the match title from both her own team and the opposition, whilst it was great to see new additions Padfield and Griffiths on the scoresheet.
